Know all men by these presents that we Thomas How Ridgate, Hoskins Hanson and Ignatius Matthews of Charles County for and in consideration of the sum of Twenty Five pounds ten schillings current money to the said Thomas How Ridgate in hand paid the receit whereof he doth hereby acknowledge, have bargaind and sold and by these presents do bargain and sell unto Nicholas Lewis Sewall of Saint Mary's County one Negro woman nam'd Cloe said to be of the Butler Breed formerly the property of Walter Pye to have and to hold the said Negroe Cloe unto him the said Nicholas Lewis Sewall his heirs exors admons and assigns, which said Negro Cloe the said Nicholas Lewis Sewall purchase from the said Ridgate as one of the Butler Breed and receives her as such and agrees and on which terms she is sold that in case the said Cloe does get her freedom by Course of Law or Otherwise, that he the said Thomas How Ridgate his Heirs exors or admons shall not be answerable or accountable to the said Nicholas Lewis Sewall his Heirs exors or admons, for the above purchase money paid by him to the said Ridgate for the said negro Cloe, nor accountable in any manner for damages of any sort whatever.
And we the said Hoskins Hanson and Ignatius Matthews as Trustees to the said Walter Pye an Insolvent Debtor do assign and make over unto the said Nicholas Lewis Sewall his Heirs exors and admons all our right title Interest and Claim in and to the said Negor Cloe Invested in us as Trustees to the said Walter Pye by order of the Honble the Chancellor of Maryland dated 14th January 1790.
