Priscilla Furth, MD, Anna Riegel, PhD, and Anne Miermont, MS, presented two abstracts at the 2009 Endocrine Society Meeting in Washington, DC. The presentations, which focused on two proteins - AIB1 and Stat5a, describe new activity in breast cancer cells. The scientists believe that a variant of AIB1 may contribute to dense breast tissue, a known risk factor for breast cancer. In the second abstract, the researchers show that Stat5a plays a role in breast development and breast cancer, in addition to its known function in leukemias. Read more about AIB1 and Stat5a.
