Everett Dodson Named Vice-Chair of NCI Director's Consumer Liason Group
August 4, 2009
Everett Dodson was named vice-chair of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) Director’s Consumer Liaison Group (DCLG) on July 24, 2009. Dodson, a nationally-recognized expert on community and men’s health issues, was asked to serve as an officer of the group by NCI Director John Niederhuber.
The DCLG advises the NCI Director from the perspective and viewpoint of the cancer patient and average citizen. The 16-member group meets twice a year with the Director to make recommendations about a wide variety of issues, programs and research priorities. Since joining the committee in 2008, Dodson has worked on topics including barriers to minority recruitment to clinical trials and reviewing the community cancer center program.
“My colleagues on the DCLG are very dedicated and focused, and it is truly an honor to be given this responsibility by Dr. Niederhuber,” says Dodson, who is the community health educator at Lombardi’s Health Disparities Initiative. In this position he seeks to develop and implement outreach plans to meet the health needs of Washington, DC communities.
Dodson serves on two other NCI committees and is a member of the National Alliance of African American Prostate Cancer Advocates and former chairperson for the Mid Atlantic Region of the National Black Leadership Initiative on Cancer. His term as vice-chair of the DCLG will end in June 2011.
