January 28, 2010

At the invitation of Giant Food, Lombardi doctors and volunteers greeted thousands of Washingtonians at the annual NBC4 Health and Fitness Expo. The Expo, held this year on January 16 and 17 at the Washington Convention Center, is an annual event attended by over 80,000 people.

Giant Food, one of the area’s largest supermarket chains, invited Lombardi to be a part of their pavilion at the Expo. Along with Giant’s nutritionists and pharmacists, Lombardi doctors answered questions about cancer prevention and screening at a booth called, “What’s Up Doc?” Volunteers were also on hand to distribute a cancer prevention tip sheet, information about Lombardi and boxes of greeting cards painted by cancer survivors.

Lombardi’s Capital Breast Care Center also distributed information and scheduled appointments for women who were due for a mammogram. Jennifer Eng-Wong, MD, the CBCC’s Medical Director and a breast oncologist at Lombardi, participated in a panel discussion about the guidelines for mammography screening with NBC4 anchor Doreen Gentzler.

Participating experts included Constanza Cocilovo, MD; Nancy Dawson, MD; K. William Harter, MD; Mireille Bright-Gbebry, PhD, MPH, RD; Claudine Isaacs, MD; Craig Kessler, MD; Wenchi Liang, PhD; Minetta Liu, MD; Nancy Morgan, MA-TLA; Michael Pishvaian, MD, PhD, and Jennifer Sween, MS.
