Georgetown University is located in Washington, DC, a thriving international community. Students at Georgetown have access to a diverse range of work and research opportunities in SLA and linguistics, including at the many private and governmental research institutions in the DC metropolitan area-- for example, the Center for Applied Linguistics (CAL), the Linguistic Society of America, the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) and the national headquarters of TESOL.


Students may also take courses for credit at any of the other 12 members of the Consortium of Universities of the Washington Metropolitan Area, including American University; The Catholic University of America; Gallaudet University; George Mason University; The George Washington University; Howard University; Marymount University; National Defense University, Southeastern University; Trinity College; University of the District of Columbia; or University of Maryland, College Park.
